Sophia McMahon

Sophia McMahon is a Senior Associate in the Building and Construction team.

Sophia has extensive experience acting for a range of clients involved in the building and construction sector including builders, developers, sub-contractors, owners and owners corporations across a broad range of both front-end and back-end building and construction matters.  With a strong focus on achieving results for her clients, she provides tailored, practical and concise legal advice in a clear and approachable manner to ensure clients are well informed so that they can confidently accomplish their goals and objectives.

She advises on a broad range of building and construction law matters, including contract drafting and negotiation, contract administration and determination, Security of Payment claims, dispute resolution, insurance claims and disputes before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Victorian courts.

As a highly skilled and commercially focused building and construction lawyer, Sophia is known for her diligence, attention to detail, precision, clear communication, and grounded approach.

With an ability to quickly gain a deep understanding of her clients’ specific requirements and foster strong personal relationships, she provides strategic and commercially sound advice to her clients in a collaborative manner. Sophia is also a determined, persuasive and competent advocate for her clients when disputes arise during the project lifecycle and is committed to achieving successful outcomes.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Sophia studied and worked as a musician and instrumental violin teacher.  She also completed two degrees in Arts and Business (Marketing) from the University of Melbourne and RMIT University.

Sophia completed her Juris Doctor degree from Monash University in early 2017 and was admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria in May 2018 and to the High Court of Australia in July 2021.

Sophia is also a member of The Building Dispute Practitioners’ Society and The Society of Construction Law Australia.”
